Vietnam for the first time has been elected a member of the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Doan Quang Hoan, General Director of the Authority of Radio Frequency Management under the Ministry of Information and Communications was chosen to represent Vietnam for the term from 2014–2019.

The RRB election was held during the 19th International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference, which took place from October 20 to November 7, in Busan, the Republic of Korea.

This is the first time Vietnam has been appointed to the RRB, which is an important agency of the ITU responsible for providing guidance and resolving issues related to the use of spectrum/satellite orbits and enforcement of radio regulations.

The selection of RRB members was conducted in the form of a secret ballot by 193 ITU member countries to select 12 candidates from 5 regions.

Representatives from more than 160 countries participated in the October 27 voting, which included candidates from Japan, India, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
