The activities of the National Assembly (NA) and its Standing Committee will be overseen by the Standing Vice Chairman until the election of a new legislative leader, conducted in compliance with legal procedures.

Tran Thanh Man, a member of the Politburo and Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) has been tasked with overseeing the activities of the NA and its Standing Committee until the election of a new legislative leader in compliance with the law, as per a statement from the NA Standing Committee today [May 2], Vietnam News Agency reported.

Previously, General Secretary of the National Assembly (NA), Bui Van Cuong, released a statement disclosing the outcomes of the 15th NA's 7th extraordinary session convened on the same day.

In the statement, it was revealed that during the extraordinary session, deliberations were made regarding the removal of Vuong Dinh Hue from the position of NA Chairman for the 2021-2026 tenure. Additionally, the session endorsed the dismissal of Hue as a member of the Council of National Defence and Security and sanctioned the termination of his duties as a deputy of the 15th NA.

On April 26, the 13th Party Central Committee reached a consensus to allow Hue to step down from his roles as a Politburo member, member of the 13th Party Central Committee, and the Chairman of the 15th National Assembly (NA) for the 2021-2026 term.

Considering Hue's expressed desire to relinquish his positions and cease working, the committee acknowledged his significant role as a key leader within the Party and State. Having received foundational training and risen through the ranks from grassroots levels, Hue has been entrusted with numerous important leadership roles within the Party and the State.

However, recent reports from the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission and relevant authorities have highlighted instances where Hue violated regulations concerning the conduct expected of Party members, as well as regulations regarding the responsibilities of setting exemplary standards for officials and Party members, particularly those in influential positions such as the Politburo, the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, and the Party Central Committee. Consequently, he bears responsibility under both Party regulations and State laws.

His transgressions and shortcomings have led to negative public perceptions and have had an adverse impact on the prestige of both the Party and the State, as well as his reputation. Recognizing his obligations to the Party, the State, and the people, Hue has submitted a request to relinquish his assigned positions and cease working.
