Traffic accidents decline in Viet Nam

Viet Nam recorded more than 25,300 traffic accidents this year, dropping by more than 4,000 cases compared with last year, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.
The accidents killed a total of nearly 9,000 people and injured more than 24,400 others, showing a decline of 370 and 5,000 people, respectively, compared with last year.
In this month alone, more than 2,000 traffic accidents occurred across the country, killing 700 people and injuring nearly 2,000 others. The number of accidents, casualties and injured victims dropped by 155, 19 and 213, respectively, compared with the same period last year.
More than 199,300 new automobiles and nearly 2.6 million new motorbikes were registered this year.
Traffic police across the country fined more than 4.3 million people for traffic violations, with total penalties amounting to VND2.5 trillion (US$119 million). As many as 370,200 people had their driving licence withdrawn.
Waterway traffic police this year fined more than 18,200 people a total of VND10.6 billion ($504,700) and suspended 27 waterway vehicles for their substandard condition.
