Thua Thien-Hue receives donation from UK's woman to develop traditional craft products

Thua Thien-Hue has received US$29,000 from a UK national who donated the money to help the central province develop traditional craft products.
This was announced by Hoang Ngoc Khanh, Chief of the Office of the provincial People’s Committee at the administration handed over the money, donated by a woman named Victoria Elizabeth Ho, to the Hue Centre for Cultural Preservation and Economic Development on May 28.

The donated by UK's woman to fund marketing activities, development of traditional products, and exhibition of products of local craft villages in Thua Thien-Hue.
Thua Thien-Hue plans to spend VND144.3 billion (US$6.3 million) on supporting craft villages’ development, promoting the training and maintenance of traditional crafts, and expanding the market for products of craft villages and rural industries from now to 2020.
From now to 2020, the plan aims to develop 10 handicraft villages and make them tourist destinations.
Those villages are the Hue bronze moulding village in Hue City, the Phuoc Tich ceramic village and the My Xuyen wooden-carving village in Phong Dien District, the Thanh Thuy conical hat village in Huong Thuy Town, the My Lam conical hat village in Phu Vang District, the two Zeng textile villages in A Luoi District, the Bao La bamboo weaving village in Quang Dien District, the Sinh folk painting village, and the Thanh Tien paper flower village in Phu Vang District.
The move is part of the province’s efforts toward the goal of attracting over five million visitors by 2020, and over seven million by 2030, making it one of the leading tourism destinations of the nation and in the region.
In addition, Thua Thien-Hue has issued a development plan for local traditional crafts and craft villages until 2025. This plan aims to help accelerate the industrialisation and modernisation of rural areas while creating jobs and raising income for rural residents.
The province will step up craft villages’ application of science-technology in production activities to improve the design, productivity, quality and competitiveness of traditional craft products. It will also develop the crafts that generate high economic benefits and combine craft village preservation with tourism development.
