The two-kilometre stretch of road linking National Highway 1A to General Vo Nguyen Giap’s tomb in Vung Chua – Dao Yen area has been crowded by a flood of vehicles, causing traffic jams that last hours.
Local authorities had to work hard to control traffic, with the aid of many student volunteers.
Visitors range from very young to the very old
Truong Van Nghia, 68, from Quang Tri Province, said, “I arrived here at 7am but could not pay tribute to General Giap until 9:15am. I wish I could have spent more time for worship.”
Many other people were in the same situation as the number of visitors continued to increase.
Lieutenant Khac Ngoc Tan Hao, head of the guards responsible for protecting General Giap’s tomb, said nearly 67,000 delegations have come to pay tribute to General Giap so far.
“Around 40,000 people have visited General Giap’s tomb over the last two days,” he added.
