The first same-sex wedding in Tien Giang
VietNamNet 15:49, 2014/05/09
Nearly 200 well-wishers attended the wedding of two men in the city of My Tho on Wednesday. This is the first same-sex wedding in My Tho.

The wedding party, held at a restaurant in this Mekong Delta locale, took place in the afternoon and continued until late night.

The groom, 31 year-old Nguyen Truong Vinh, presented the traditional marriage gifts of a wedding ring and jewelry to "bride" Nguyen Quoc Dung, 25, in the presence of their two families.

Most of them guests were themselves members of the gay community.

Doan Van Thanh, My Tho’s Chief of Police, says that the police are investigating this case, as same-sex marriage is not recognized in Vietnam. However, there is no specific provision in the Vietnamese law barring same-sex wedding parties like this, says lawyer Nguyen Van Duc from the Can Tho City Bar Association.
