Upon entering the shop, which occupies the front corner space of the English courtyard-style Vanilla Garden compound, customers are charmingly greeted by the buttery aroma of freshly baked goods and mouthwatering display of handcrafted pastries and desserts. It’s a real paradise for sweet tooths and discerning gluttons alike.
As its name indicates, the warmly decked-out venue with a seating capacity of 50 mainly offers baked goods, yet is not limited to light victuals. Among dozens of choices of pastries, desserts and drinks is also a small line-up of substantial fare. The extensive collection of house-concocted drinks features approximately 50 items including fruit juices, creative smoothies, fanciful floats, house-blended tea and Italian dark-roasted coffee and shandies.

Girls and girls at heart may find satisfaction from the lychee lavender sundae cream float (175 baht). The pink, lavender-perfumed lychee, soda was lent a creamy texture from vanilla ice cream and a buttery dash from sprinkles of biscuit crumbs. Selection of substantial dishes for lunch and dinner are available from chef’s special menu.
The gravlax salmon salad (450 baht) was a luxurious exhibition of house-marinated salmon served in a metal pan with organic greens, gooseberries, caviar, pine nuts and garlic toast. The dish was a true tastebud-pleaser. The restaurant is opens daily, 10am - 10pm.

Set in a dazzling white two-story building nestled amid lush greenery, Emmie’s is the latest comfort-food opening from the folks behind Rama 9 strongholds Photynine (Vietnamese) and Yod Lard Ped Udon (Isaan).
Here, the focus is a little looser, centering on all-day Western dishes, with chef Eiang Thanongsak Rungsri (formerly of Mandarin Oriental) rolling out hearty options like the tender half-roasted chicken with carrot and potato (480 Baht), grilled rack of ramb with chimichurri sauce (single 680 Baht or shared 1,850 Baht) and mac n’ cheese (210 Baht).

Rocket Coffee Bar S49 at Thong Lor was one of those cafes after entering, I wished immediately that my future home could look like this. “This is simply gorgeous”. The coffee bar on Sukhumvit Soi 49 looks like it can land on the cover of a home and interior décor magazine.
It was those particular shades of blue – the pale-sky blue and Facebook blue. Seldom would I talk about the colours used in a café, but the blue used in the logo, the apron, the cups hit right at my weak spot. The ceiling to floor windows allowed natural light to come in, matched with light food furniture, marbled tables, lights hanging from copper pipes and plants ornamenting. You could seat at a corner, do work, chit-chat for hours away.
Walk up to the second level and the Scandinavian aura would be more apparent. Oh, there is a cosier seating area upstairs, flanked by tall potted plants. Homely, comfortable, bright, welcoming. I hate to say this, but it can be an instagrammer’s dream cafe.

Menu is wide-ranging and leans to a health-slant, offering breakfast bites, salads, sandwiches, pasta, desserts and Nordic dishes. Eggs are so-called produced by “hill tribe hens” which are pasture-based, 100% organic-fed with space to roam freely.
Rocket Coffeebar is known to use produce its artisanal coffee from carefully selected small-batch roasted beans, then prepared with Synesso Hydra espresso machine. The attention to the details and theme at Rocket 49 is quite amazing. And you would realise the cafe experience is not just about food and coffee, but the being-there. Yes, I will come back here again – it is like home.

Roast is a very popular cafe in Bangkok and it seems like it’s the must-go cafe for many tourists to Bangkok. If you remember Roots, they have closed their outlet at Ekamai Terrace. Usually, cafe latte is the thing to order because of the latte art.
Now, those who love cold drinks have a reason to order this special and beautiful Iced Espresso Latte (120 Baht). The drink is served in latte ice cubes. You have to pour in the milk and sugar. It is a good opportunity to take good photographs and videos, especially when you’re pouring the milk and sugar.

We were looking through the menu for interesting desserts or specifically desserts that were “instagrammable”. Had a hard time deciding as the desserts all looked so good. We went with Chocolate Souffle (200 Baht).
Roast is definitely a good place for All Day Breakfast. It can be crowded during peak hours but if you come during tea break on weekdays, you can actually stay longer and have a good catch-up with your friends.

Opened recently in Bangkok, a 2-storey ethereal cafe called Shugaa Dessert bar has quickly become one of the cafes to visit. Known for its luxurious interior and decadent desserts, Shugaa derives its concept directly from the base of its creative menu; sugar. It is apparent throughout its theme and the interior reflects the various crystals and elements that compose the desserts’ primary ingredient, making every corner of the cafe beautifully detailed and Instagram-worthy.
