The event was organised by the Consulate General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CanCham) and the Ho Chi Minh City's Union of Friendship Organisations.
The funding raised at the event will be used to support projects on cancer research at the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, which meets the demand for cancer treatment in the city and other southern localities.
Wayne Robson, the Canadian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the annual Terry Fox Run has become an important event for not only Canadian community, but also coworkers and friends of Canada in Vietnam.
The Terry Fox Run 2013 attracted 15,500 people and raised VND 1.8 billion for cancer research.
The Terry Fox Run is an annual non-competitive charity event held in various regions around the world to commemorate Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox, who made a Marathon of Hope run across Canada to raise funds for cancer research in 1980 after losing a leg to osteosarcoma.
To date, the event has raised more than US$650 million around the world to advance cancer research.
