Temperature surges, coupled with dangerous ultraviolet in Hanoi

From June 21, the current heat wave scorches Hanoi since early morning, with the highest temperature hitting 35-38 degrees Celsius and even likely to surge to 40 degrees Celsius.
In the next three days, along with blazing hot temperatures up to nearly 40 degrees Celsius in the midst of the scorching heat wave, the ultraviolet (UV) index will rise sharply in Hanoi, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).

The center warned that in the next three days, the UV index in Hanoi city will remain at the dangerous levels of 8 and 10, posing a high risk of skin damage, including skin cancer, for people exposed under the sun for a long time. Thus, people on the road are recommended to apply SPF 30+ sunscreen, wear a shirt, sunglasses and a hat. 

The center said that from June 20 to 23, Foehn wind, caused by impact of the southeastern edge of the western hot low-pressure area, is developing and causing hot weather across the northern and central regions, with temperatures ranging from 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, and even higher in some places.

From June 21, the current heat wave scorches Hanoi since early morning, with the highest temperature hitting 35-38 degrees Celsius and even expected to surge to 40 degrees Celsius. Particularly in the northern and central regions, hot weather is likely to last for many days. The disaster risk due to sizzling hot weather is level 1, the NCHMF noted.

The center’s experts also warned that people should prevent probable fire in residential areas as well as wildfire and recommended to avoid outdoor activities from 10:00am to 5:00pm, drink enough water and take proper diet to enhance the immune system.
