Many supermarkets in Hanoi have launched a series of promotions and discounts during the ongoing National Reunification Day [April 30] and Labor Day [May 1], according to the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade.
"The more you buy, the steeper the discount," Phung Thi Trang, a 30-year-old resident of Hanoi's Nam Tu Liem district, told The Hanoi Times.
The LOTTE Mart supermarket system launches the "Big Holiday Party - Don't worry about the price" promotional program, offering discounts of up to 50% on a wide range of fresh food, dry goods, household items, and children's toys.

In addition, LOTTE Mart is hosting a fruit festival with many fresh agricultural products at attractive prices. The supermarket system is running a promotion with more than 300 heavily discounted products, as well as buy-one-get-one-free and buy-two-get-one-free offers. Prices of detergents and fabric softeners are down by up to 24%, while household items are discounted by up to 50%.
Thailand's Central Retail, which operates the GO!/Big C supermarket chain, has launched a promotional program called "Always Low Prices" with discounts of over 30%. In addition, its supermarkets have also launched sales campaigns to enhance the shopping experience at GO!/Big C supermarkets.
"The company has been working with suppliers to ensure enough essentials for the holidays. Until May 15, shoppers at GO! and Big C supermarkets can buy basic consumer goods with discounts of up to 33% on fresh local and imported meat and fish, and up to 30% on fruits and vegetables," Nguyen Bich Van, Communications Director of Central Retail, told The Hanoi Times.
For retailers to offer discounts of up to 50%, many have spent months negotiating prices with suppliers and distributors, optimizing operational processes, and cutting unnecessary costs.

Nguyen Trong Tuan, General Director of WinMart Supermarket System, said his company has been negotiating with suppliers since the beginning of the first quarter of 2024 on the prices of many products to offer discounts ranging from 15% to 50% for promotional programs.
"From now until May 8, we are offering discounts of up to 50% on many goods, especially fresh food, processed food, beverages, and cosmetics. It will be an attractive shopping experience for Hanoi residents during the holiday," Tuan told The Hanoi Times.
Le Thanh Liem, Director of Saigon Co.op in the north, said the supermarket chain is offering discounts of 5-40% on essential goods and products.
"A survey conducted at major supermarkets in Hanoi, such as Winmart, Co.opmart, and Lotte Mart, shows that the number of customers over the first two days of the holidays soared by 30-40% compared to previous days," Liem said.
Acting Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Tran Thi Phuong Lan said market authorities were monitoring the supply-demand situation at major supermarkets and inspecting key distributors in the city to ensure product quality and supply.
"In addition to the efforts of local authorities, suppliers and producers are encouraged to use hi-tech applications to trace origin and verify information on food safety standards," Lan stressed.
