The Vietnam Bar Federation (VBF) should focus on training lawyers in international consultancy and litigation, President Truong Tan Sang said on October 13 at a ceremony celebrating the 70th traditional day of Vietnamese lawyers (October 10).
The federation should also teach them how to advise the Government, ministries and localities on protecting the interests of the nation, social organisations and businesses during the international integration process, President Sang said.
Greeting all lawyers across the nation on their anniversary, the State leader affirmed that over the past 70 years, lawyer has been recognised as a noble profession.
He asked the federation to be prepared to take charge of political legal tasks assigned by the Party and State, and continue playing its role as a bridge between the Party, the State and its members.
VBF Vice President Do Ngoc Thinh called on all lawyers to continue to improve their capacity and knowledge in order to create an equal, democratic and efficient judiciary. This would help build a nation ruled by law – of the people, by the people and for the people.
National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu presented the Labour Order, third class, to the VBF for its achievements in training, development and popularisation of laws.
The VBF was established on January 16, 2008 under a decision by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. It has 63 provincial and municipal bar associations nationwide.
