Southern province invests VND178 billion in labourers’ vocational training

In the next 5 years, the southern province of Kien Giang plans to spend VND178 billion giving vocational training to labourers, the provincial Department of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs has reported.
According to the department, of the capital, the central budget will assist the program with some VND10 billion per year while the rest will be taken from the local budget.
 
 
The training will be conducted with specific consideration to the needs of the agricultural, industrial, service, and tourism sectors until 2020. At first, the program will focus on training highly skilled labourers’ for industrial zones and tourism areas in the province, positions that will contribute to establishing and maintaining sustainable poverty reduction and improving people’s standard of living.

Under the program, the province will re-assess vocational training planning, and invest in vocational training foundations to produce high quality human resources based on the needs of the priority industry sectors.

Statistics from the provincial Department of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs show that there are currently 28 vocational training foundations in the province. In the 2015-2019 period, the province needs to train approximately 130,000 individuals to meet the anticipated demand from local industry.

At present, as diverse tourism and industrial projects are being completed and put into operation, the demand for labourers is expected to reach some 34,000 in the next 1-2 years, 50% of which will need to be skilled workers.

By increasing vocational training, the province targets to reduce the unemployment rate, create income and shift the labour weighting towards the industrial and service sectors.
