The project aims to mark the 30th aniversary of bilateral relations between Vietnam and South Korea and promote smart urban area projects nationwide.

South Korea and Hanoi will jointly develop a smart urban area project in 2022, marking the 30th anniversary of bilateral relations between the two countries, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Chu Ngoc Anh said while hosting a meeting with South Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Park Noh Wan on March 18.

Anh said the exchange of expertise between the two countries on the development of smart urban area will lay a foundation for building a smart city in the future.

Briefing the guest on the capital’s goals including e-government development, urban construction, smart transportation, Anh said the project is a cooperation example of the two sides. “It is expected to be replicated nationwide.”

Though the Covid-19 pandemic restricted travel demand, about 23,000 South Koreans who are professionals and their families have been allowed entry into Vietnam thanks to the support from the Vietnamese government and the Hanoi’s authorities. The two sides continue to maintain a cooperative relationship.

The South Korean Ambassador hoped that the city’s authorities will organize a dialogue between the city leaders and South Korean businesses to promote development and remove difficulties and obstacles.

Hanoi’s mayor suggested the two sides strengthen promotion of trade, investment, tourism and culture, as well as connection between two countries’ businesses.

"The two sides need to further boost up cooperation and exchange of experiences through upcoming technology projects on environmentally friendly technologies," Anh said.

The South Korean side will continue to implement training programs for transferring technology and experiences with Hanoi in the fields of urban transport, environment and water management.

South Korea is currently the third-largest investor in Hanoi, with outstanding projects invested by South Korean enterprises in the fields of science and technology, construction and retail.
