South Korea aims to invest in Vietnam’s education
At the conference held on November 9, Kim Sang Mok from the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) said that Vietnamese education and training sector is a fertile land for enterprises from the South Korea.
The Vietnamese Government is prioritising education development to improve workforce quality, opening up opportunities for foreign businesses, including those from the RoK, to boost investment in the sector, he noticed.
Kim Tae-hyeong, Director of the Korean Education Centre in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the South Korea and Vietnam share a number of similarities in education and training. They all see education as top priority and humans as key driver of economic development.
The South Korea is applying information and technology (IT) to build smart education while Vietnam is in need of modern and effective education models, he stressed, adding that education cooperation between the two countries is not only mutual benefits but also helps build high-quality human resources, bringing sustainable prosperity to both sides.
According to Pham Ngoc Thanh, Vice Director of the municipal Department of Education and Training, the South Korea landed 62 education products worth nearly 66 million USD in Vietnam by the end of October, accounting for 9 percent of total foreign direct investment (FDI) capital in the country’s education sector. However, he said, the figure is still humble as compared to cooperation potential between the two countries.
Thanh said that Ho Chi Minh City is working to branch out the education system through promoting technology transfer with education-developed countries, including the South Korea. Particularly, the city also enhances experience sharing and signed a cooperation agreement on education management and training models with South Korea universities.
