Song Tranh hydro-power plant 2 jolted by earthquake

A 2.9 magnitude earthquake rattled Song Tranh hydro-power plant 2 in central Quang Nam province`s Bac Tra My District on the afternoon of June 8.

Witnesses report hearing explosions that rumbled through the entire plant, threatening the safety and well-being of local residents in Bac Tra My and Nam Tra My districts and surrounding areas.

Tran Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Bac Tra My District People's Committee, said that although the reverberations from the quake were felt over a wide area there are no initial reports of damage to people and property.

According to the Geophysics Institute, the quake occurred at the position of 15.362 north latitude and 108.107 east longitude, with focal depth of around 6km.

At present, the Geophysics Institute is keeping a close watch on the natural disaster.
