Seafood imports surge 73% in eight months

Vietnam’s total seafood import value has reached US$720 million over the past eight months, accounting for 73% of the total seafood import turnover compared to the same period in 2013.
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported most products were shipped from India and Taiwan (China).
As of July 2014, Vietnam had signed Indian shrimp import contracts worth more than US$200 million. However, the country’s seafood exports to India fetched less than US$8.5 million.
