The Foehn wind, caused by impact of the southeastern edge of the western hot low-pressure area, is developing and causing hot weather across the northern region, with temperatures ranging from 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, and even higher in some places, on May 16-19.

This summer, some parts across Vietnam would see mercury climbing up to unbelievable 39-40 degree Celsius, and the temperatures at some points may hit record levels, according to the NCHMF.

Meanwhile, the blazing hot temperatures of the Northwest and mountainous areas in the Central region may rise up to 39-42 degree Celsius, the NCHMF predicted.

People are warned of preventing probable fire in residential areas as well as wildfire and recommended to avoid outdoor activities from 11:00am to 4:00pm, drink enough water and take proper diet to enhance the immune system.

About two or three other hot waves will affect the northern and central regions this month, but they will not last long or be too harsh, said the NCHMF.

The center also warned of downpours and a high risk of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas in northern mountainous areas.  It is also likely that widespread rains will occur in the central, central highland and southern regions this month.
