Russian President received the credentialsof the Ambassador of Vietnam
On the 11th of April Vladimir Putin received the credentials of a number of foreign ambassadors, including Vietnamese ambassador Ngo Duc Manh in Alexander Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin said that Russia and Vietnam are successfully developing a strategic partnership. "We maintain active political contacts at high and top levels. We have coordinated our efforts primarily in multilateral organisations in the Asia-Pacific Region," he said.
According to the President: "Vietnam is one of Russia’s leading trade partners. Our trade increased by one-third last year. We also maintain close military and military-technical cooperation. The relevant intergovernmental commission is functioning effectively. In general, our bilateral cooperation is increasing."
In an interview with Vietnam News Agency on the occasion of the reception, Ambassador Ngo Duc Manh said bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership has been growing in diverse areas, especially via the exchange of high-level visits.
In order to fully tap potential of bilateral cooperation, Manh underscored the need to realise projects under the Vietnam – Russia priority portfolio for 2018-2019, and make periodic review to clear barriers and unlock opportunities brought about by the Vietnam – Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement that took effect in October 2016.
“The embassy will give priority to economic diplomacy in order to realise the goal of lifting two-way trade to US$10 billion by 2020 as agreed by leaders,” Manh quoted as saying.
Last year, two-way trade neared US$4 billion, up 36% annually. Russia’s total investment in Vietnam hit US$2 billion while Vietnam poured US$2.9 billion into the European country.
