Readers rush to Spring Book Street in Hanoi
Audiences will be able to learn about Hanoi’s history through extracts performed by artists from the Hanoi cheo singing (Vietnamese traditional opera) and drama theaters.
Hundreds of book lovers joined the Spring Book Street in downtown Hanoi which kicked off on February 7, the third day of the Lunar New Year festival, and is offering a wide range of Tet-inspired activities, local media reported.
At the Spring Book Street, located on December 12 street, Hoan Kiem district, publishers introduce new books and owners of bookstores offer lucky money to visitors and discounts of up to 50% to buyers.
Readers will also have a chance to join talks with authors and experts on books, the reading habit and calligraphy.
Performances of traditional arts and folk games are also displayed at the Book Street. Audiences will be able to learn about Hanoi’s history through extracts performed by artists from the Hanoi cheo singing (Vietnamese traditional opera) and drama theaters.
In addition, types of traditional musical genres like the van, xam and tru singing will be performed at this cultural event. Competitions of calligraphy, xiangqi chess and sandpainting are also held at the event.
The Spring Book Street program is an annual event organized by the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications and the Hoan Kiem district People’s Committee with an aim to promote the reading habit in the community and offer cultural performances to Hanoi residents during the Tet holiday.
