Rail freight routes of Vietnam-China start operation

The routes are in line with the ongoing bilateral partnership in promoting the Belt and Road Initiative.

Some rail freight routes from the Chinese provinces of Sichuan and Anhui to the capital city of Hanoi, Vietnam were put into operation on the two days of April 15 and 16.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang informed during a press conference held today [April 21].

“International rail freight is a safe and effective transportation mode with advantages in travel time and price, which would further contribute to trade cooperation between not only the two countries but also with others,” said Hang.

According to Hang, the routes are also in line with the ongoing bilateral partnership in promoting the Belt and Road Initiative.

Vietnam and China are major trading partners with each other. In 2021, bilateral trade turnover rose by 24.6% year-on-year to US$165.9 billion. During the first quarter of 2022, the figure rose by 10.6% year-on-year to $40.8 billion.
