Professor elected to US Academy of Sciences

Physics Professor Dam Thanh Son, from the US-based Chicago University, has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NSA), according to an announcement by the academy on April 29.
Son was among 84 new members elected to the NSA in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.

The academy also announced that it would elect 21 foreign associates from 15 countries.

Those elected bring the total number of active members to 2,214 and the total number of foreign associates to 444.

Last year, Son received the Simons Investigators Award from the New York-based Simons Foundation for his contribution to the field of theoretical physics.

Son was born in Ha Noi in 1969. He went to the United States for postdoctoral research in Seattle in 1995-1996 and was invited to work as a professor of theoretical physics at the University of Chicago from September 2012.
