16:04, 2014/08/13
State President Truong Tan Sang has lauded the significant humanitarian contributions to the nation by the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
At a conference in Hanoi on August 13, Sang spoke glowingly about the efforts of the movements launched by the VRCS and the IFRC over the past three years in support of needy people nationwide.
He specifically thanked the IFRC and international donors for their valuable assistance to Vietnam’s charitable work. Since 2011, more than VND360 billion worth of humanitarian funds has been disbursed by them in an effective and transparent manner.
Over the past three years, the VRCS has mobilized VND4,281 billion, including VND331 billion sourced from international organizations, to fulfil its humanitarian mission. It is implementing 38 foreign-funded projects, with around VND241 billion being disbursed up to now. Beneficiaries include Agent Orange/Dioxin victims, poor people, victims of natural disasters, and patients with financial difficulty.
On the occasion, the IFRC, the International Committee of the Red Cross (CICR) and nine national associations pledged VND233 billion for 25 humanitarian programmes in Vietnam.
Eleven local and foreign businesses also donated VND12 billion for the programmes.
