On September 21, President Tran Dai Quang hosted separate receptions for the Ambassadors of the Netherlands and Azerbaijan in Hanoi.

It is essential to boost more cooperation with the Netherlands in ship building and called for further Dutch support in education, environment, agriculture and water management.

He is delighted at the fine development of the bilateral relations, especially after the two countries set up their strategic partnership in water resource management and climate change response in October 2010 and signed a strategic partnership agreement on agriculture and food security in June 2014.

The President expected further comprehensive relations with the EU based on the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). He suggested both sides should step up cooperation in water resource management, agriculture, energy, logistics, judicial affairs as well as collaboration between their localities.

The State President affirmed that the Netherlands is continually one of the leading investors and trade partners of Vietnam in the European Union. He suggested both sides intensify cooperation in water resource management, agriculture, energy, logistics, judicial affairs as well as collaboration between their localities.

Ambassador Trooster said that the Netherlands prioritises developing its relations with Vietnam in the fields of economics, trade and investment. The Netherlands is currently the biggest EU investor in Vietnam and the second biggest EU trade partner of Vietnam. Two-way trade reached 5.4 billion USD in 2015, and 3 billion USD in the first half of 2016.

Dutch Ambassador Nienke Trooster said her nation prioritises developing its relations with Vietnam in the fields of economics, trade and investment, adding that it is also focusing on realizing its strategic partnership agreement with Vietnam in agriculture, with the priority given to agricultural restructuring. She pledged her utmost efforts to further solidify the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two nations.

Meeting with Azerbaijan  Ambassador Anar Imanov, the Vietnamese State leader welcomed the establishment of the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Joint Committee on Economic, Trade, Science and Technology Cooperation. He called for more cooperation in oil and gas exploration between the two countries and directed an early opening of a Vietnam Embassy in Azerbaijan.

President Quang urged the early organisation of the first meeting of their inter-governmental committee on economic-trade and scientific-technological cooperation. He affirmed that the committee is an important mechanism to deepen the bilateral ties on the basis of trusted political cooperation and growing two-way trade.

Speaking of Azerbaijan’s abundant natural resources and progresses in several industries, especially the oil and gas field, the President asked Azerbaijan to create favourable conditions to help the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group participate in oil and gas exploration and exploitation projects in the country.

The two sides should study and soon sign an agreement on education and training to further tighten cooperation in this area, he suggested. He also took the occasion to convey his invitation to visit Vietnam to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The ambassador in turn highlighted the important role played by the Vietnamese people who used to study or work in Azerbaijan in reinforcing the traditional relations between the two countries. He said he hopes the first meeting of the inter-governmental committee, scheduled for this October, will open up new opportunities for broader cooperation in the future.

Potential in economic and trade cooperation has yet to be tapped fully, the diplomat stated, wishing that Vietnam will open its embassy in Baku capital in order to promote bilateral collaboration in economics, trade, culture and tourism. He expressed his belief that the first meeting of the inter-governmental committee, scheduled for this October, will open up new cooperative opportunities for both sides.
