PM praises efforts to overcome UXO and toxic chemical consequences
Vietnam has been struggling fiercely to overcome bomb, mine and toxic chemical consequences, reduce the land area that is contaminated with bombs and poisonous chemicals after the war.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has acknowledged Vietnam’s efforts of overcoming unexploded ordnance (UXO) and toxic chemical consequences over the past years with positive results.

At the meeting, the participants reviewed the results over the past time on the work of overcoming, dealing with bombs, landmines, toxic chemicals and supporting policies.
In his speech, PM Phuc said ministries, agencies, localities and socio-political organizations have devised their own action plans to deal with bombs, mines and toxic chemicals, facilitated international cooperation, scientific research and technological development in the field, as well as provided support for victims.
Appreciating the cooperation between ministries and sectors, the PM acknowledged Vietnam’s efforts of overcoming bomb, mine and toxic chemical consequences over the past years with positive results.
He praised the efforts of the members of Steering Board 701, at all levels and branches, contributing to protecting the environment, protecting people's health and ensuring socio-economic safety of the country.
Furthermore, ministries, sectors and localities have continued to implement policies on preferential allowances for groups of resistance war activists infected with toxic chemicals, the PM added.
The Ministry of Defense has implemented the project "Detecting decimals of armed units operating in areas sprayed with dioxin by the US military in Vietnam". The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has supported the pilot model of livelihoods support for victims of landmine/UXO incidents in some localities, Phuc said.
The important work of the Steering Committee is to find the inadequacies, shortcomings, limitations to overcome and do better in the coming time. This is a great requirement for members of the Steering Committee, PM Phuc said, stressing it is necessary to identify the work of overcoming bomb, mine and toxic chemical consequences, demonstrating humanity in a war-torn country.
At the meantime, it is necessary to further enhance international cooperation to mobilize resources for the work of overcoming bomb, mine and toxic chemical consequences, he added.
