PM Phuc received Myanmar, Swedish Ambassadors

On June 29, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted separate receptions for Myanmar Ambassador Win HLaing and Swedish Ambassador Camila Melander who have successfully fulfilled their tenures in Vietnam.

Welcoming the Myanmar Ambassador, the PM hailed active contributions of the Ambassador to the two nations’ multi-faceted relations, especially in 2015 when they celebrated their 40thanniversary of diplomatic ties. Vietnam attaches importance to the traditional relations with Myanmar, he said, highlighting developments in their relationship over the recent years.

The two sides have maintained high-ranking delegation exchanges and annual political dialogues as well as gained achievements in economics, trade and investment. PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc reassured that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to develop the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Myanmar , for the sake of the two countries’ people, for cooperation and solidarity within ASEAN, and for peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world at large. 

Vietnamese businesses are keen to cooperate with their Myanmar partners, he said, calling on Myanmar to facilitate their operation in the country. PM Phuc suggested Myanmar facilitate and support Vietnamese businesses to invest and launch further operation in Myanmar.

The ambassador pledged that he will make more contributions to strengthening the collaboration between the two countries. The Ambassador asserted that he will to do more for the two nations’ relationship in the future.

At the meeting with the Swedish Ambassador, the Government chief highly valued contribution of the Ambassador to the two nations’ relations, congratulating Sweden on its election as the non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. He thanked Sweden for its assistance for Viet Nam in such areas as poverty reduction, health, energy, justice, rural development and other areas.

Vietnam is making efforts in improving its business environment, he affirmed, expressing his hope that more Swedish investors will invest in Vietnam. Ms. Camilla Melander said that some Swedish large-scale corporation are interested in investing in Viet Nam and many companies desire to open branches or representative offices in the country. She stressed the increasing number of the Swedish visitors to Viet Nam thanks to the visa exemption policy, suggesting the Vietnamese Government maintain the policy.

The PM affirmed that Sweden is Vietnam’s important partner, expressing his hope for enhanced trade and investment ties between the two countries. Vietnam is making all-out efforts to improve its investment climate, he said, calling on Swedish investors to increase their presence in the Southeast Asian nation. 

The host highly appreciated Sweden’s assistance to Vietnam in poverty reduction, health care, energy, justice and rural development, among others. The PM said he hopes that the ambassador, in any position, will contribute to bolstering the Vietnam-Sweden relationship. 

For her part, Camilla Mellander said many multinational Swedish companies like Volvo, Ikea and Comvik are interested in the Vietnamese market. She noted her belief that bilateral trade and investment ties will thrive in the time ahead, especially after the EU-Vietnam trade agreement officially comes into force. 

She pledged greater efforts to boost ties with Vietnam and expressed her belief that bilateral trade and investment ties will grow in the time ahead, especially after the EU-Vietnam trade agreement officially becomes effective.
