PM meets with ambassadors of Ireland and Timor Leste
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Irish Ambassador to Vietnam Caist Moran and Ambassador of Timor Leste Jorge Trindade Neves De Camoes in Hanoi on December 16.
At the meeting with Irish Ambassador to Vietnam Caist Moran, Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc noted that the recent visit to Vietnam by Irish President Michael Daniel Higgins was a success, creating a new impetus for bilateral relations.
The PM said that Vietnam hopes to strengthen trade and investment ties with Ireland, while looking for Ireland’s help in education and training, as well as assistance for the early signing of the Vietnam-EU free trade agreement.
He asked the ambassador to help promoting bilateral relations in the future.
For her part, Ambassador Caist Moran said her country wants to maintain high-level visits between the two countries, and is willing to share experience in agricultural development with Vietnam.
Ireland will work to push the Vietnam-European Union free trade agreement, the diplomat noted.
The Ambassador also informed PM Phuc that Ireland is expanding the provision of scholarships and improving visa granting procedures. She hoped more Vietnamese students will receive scholarships to study in Ireland and more Vietnamese tourists will travel to the European country.
During the reception for outgoing Ambassador of Timor Leste Jorge Trindade Neves De Camoes in Hanoi on December 16, PM Phuc hailed the growing bilateral ties in the recent years, especially in trade and telecommunications, which he said, is partly attributable to the ambassador’s efforts.
The Governmenr leader congratulated Ambassador Jorge Trindade Neves De Camoes on fulfilling assigned tasks during his four-year tenure in Vietnam.
Sharing his wish for increased economic ties, particularly in rice trade, PM Phuc affirmed that Vietnam is ready to supply rice to Timor Leste over a long term.
The outgoing ambassador informed the PM that during his tenure, the two countries signed a bilateral trade agreement in 2013 and a memorandum of understanding on rice trade in 2015, among others.
The diplomat hoped that the Vietnamese government would encourage companies to do business in Timor Leste and pledged that in any position, he will serve as a bridge to step up bilateral ties.
