Over half a million visitors come to Hanoi during Tet holiday
In 2019, Hanoi aims to greet nearly 28.6 million tourists in 2019, including 6.7 million foreigners.
The number of visitors to Hanoi during the nine days of Tet holiday (Lunar New Year) from February 2 to 10 is estimated at 514,866, a 10.3% increase from the same period last year, according to the Hanoi Department of Tourism.
Of the total visitors, 162,767 were foreigners, a year on year increase of 15%. The foreign tourists to Hanoi mostly came from South Korea, China, Malaysia, the US, the UK, France, and Germany.
Hanoi’s tourism sector reeled in over VND2.03 trillion (US$87.37 million) from the biggest festival of the year, up 33.3% year on year.
Most visitors flocked to the city’s popular attractions, like Thang Long Imperial Citadel site and a spring calligraphy festival at Van Mieu (Temple of Literature) – Quoc Tu Giam (the first university in Vietnam), the Huong Son landscape complex (which includes the Perfume Pagoda), Ngoc Son Temple in the heart of Hoan Kiem Lake, among others.
In 2018, the total number of visitors to Hanoi hit 26.04 million, up 9.3% from 2017. Of the total, there were 5.74 million foreigners, a rise of 16% year-on-year. Tourism revenue was calculated to exceed VND75.8 trillion (US$3.26 billion), an annual increase of 11.7%.

“Shoppers seek out the most eye-catching bouquets (usually peach blossom or ochna integerrima, the bright yellow blossom favored during Tet) amid the whirr and screech of the city's ubiquitous motorcycles, all transporting bright bunches of flowers on their pillions,” CNN wrote.
