Number of traffic accidents drops 32.7% during Tet holiday

According to the report of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, during the first 8 days of the nine-day Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday (February 6-13), number of traffic accidents decreased by 32.7% compared to the same period in 2015.
In the period, about 334 traffic accidents occurred across the country, claiming 210 lives and injuring 331 others.
The number of cases and deaths respectively decreased by 32.7% and 27.6% compared to the same period in 2015.
The Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security said February 13 alone had 50 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 28 and injuring 56 others.

The General Department of Road and departments of transport were asked to intensify inspections on the road and implement strict measures to ensure traffic safety and order and reduce serious congestion in key roads leading to big cities as people returned to work after Tet.
Traffic police forces were required to collaborate with security forces to strengthen patrol and solve violation cases, especially in major highways.
