The Central Steering Committee for the National Programme on building new rural area held a conference on December 8 in Hanoi to review its implementation in the 2010-2015 period, map out orientations and tasks for 2016-2020.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh attended the conference.
According to
the Steering Committee's report, the plans of the programme has basically been completed. The statistics showed that 98.7% of communes nationwide have achieved the criteria on the plan of the new rural area.
The country has had 1,298 communes (accounting for 14.5%) recognized to meeting the standard of new rural area.
The average number of criteria per commune has been 12.9  (up 8.2 criteria compared with in 2010).
At present, 11 districts across the country have received the Prime Minister's decision to recognise as the new rural area, including: Xuan Loc, Thong Nhat, Long Khanh town (Dong Nai province), Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, Nha (Ho Chi Minh City), Dong Trieu (Quang Ninh province), Hai Hau (Nam Dinh province), Don Duong (Lam Dong province), Dan Phuong (Hanoi capital), Nga Bay town (Hau Giang province).

The income per capita in rural areas reached 24.4 million VND, increasing about 1.9 times in the comparison to 2010. The fact that some rural districts reaching new criteria earlier than expected saw important progress of the programme.
However, the programme has failed to achieve the target of having 20 percent of communes recognised as new-style rural areas in 2015 as set in Resolution 7 of the Party Central Committee (10th tenure)
.
At the conference, 41 districts were awarded the Government's Emulation Flag for completing outstanding performances, leading in the movement "All country joins hands in building new rural areas" from 2011 to 2015.
On the occasion, 51 communes were presented the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister, including Van Phuc Commune, Thanh Tri district of Hanoi.
