Delegates at the 12th National Women’s Congress elected 161 members of Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) for the 2017-2022 tenure during their second working day on March 8.
Earlier the same day, the congress adopted a proposal that the VWU Central Committee will have 171 members. Therefore, the remaining 10 members of the committee will be elected later. 
The new Central Committee held their first session in the afternoon the same day.
Participants at the congress agreed to choose 171 members of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU). They have selected 161 so far.
At the first meeting of the VWU Central Committee, the members re-elected Nguyen Thi Thu Ha as President of the union for 2017-2022, along with four vice presidents.

Also on March 8, participants contributed ideas for the congress’s documents, including a draft political report and the union’s charter.
Delegates presented their reports and recommendations on women’s affairs, women’s movements and the union’s operation. 
During the congress, many measures were proposed to promote the role, potential and creativity of all-level women’s unions in national construction, defence and development.
The 12th National Women’s Congress concluded in Hanoi on March 9 and approved seven targets for 2017-2022.
The targets include supporting the formation of 300 women-managed co-operatives, the addition of a million members and ensure all Women’s Unions across the country enroll at least 50 percent of women aged 18 and above.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan praised the contributions that the VWU has made to VFF activities.
The VFF Chairman lauded the seven goals of the VWU in the new tenure, noting that they show the close links between the VWU and the VFF.
On the occasion, VFF Chairman Nhan presented the Independence Order, second class to former President of the VWU  Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa in recognition of Hoa’s significant contributions to women’s movements.
