NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan talks with Indian Prime Minister
Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on December 9 during her official visit to India at the invitation of Senate President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Speaker of the Lower House Sumitra Mahajan.
At the meeting, Chairwoman of the National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan expressed her pleasure at the remarkable strides in the bilateral relations in the past 45 years, especially when the two countries lifted their strategic partnership to comprehensive strategic partnership during the Indian PM’s visit to Vietnam in September 2016.
The result has created a new significant framework for deeper cooperation in various fields, the Chairwoman said, adding that the two countries will celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties and 10th anniversary of strategic partnership in 2017.
Chairwoman Ngan urged the two nations to accelerate measures to create a breakthrough in two-way trade, which is expected to hit 15 billion USD by 2020.
She affirmed that Vietnam supports and encourages Indian oil and gas companies to invest in the new oil field discovered in Vietnam’s continental shelf.
NA leader proposed Indian partners study cooperation opportunities with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) while enabling Vietnamese businesses to join potential projects in India and the third country.
For his part, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi described the long-standing friendship between Vietnam and India as a treasure for the future generations to nurture and develop to a new height.
The PM recalled his visit to Vietnam in September 2016 and said Indian enterprises are impressed with the investment environment in the Southeast Asian country.
Regarding the East Sea issue, Narendra Modi confirmed that India advocates the settlement of disputes via peaceful means and international law.
The Indian Government leader reiterated his support for Indian investors to do business in Vietnam.
