The program sets the target to plant 60,000 new trees in watershed forest.

A program named “Millions of trees for a green Vietnam” was jointly launched in Hanoi on June 8 by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCM CYU)’s Central Committee and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage Co. Ltd.

The program is aimed at raising people’s awareness of the importance and benefits of forests and trees to people, the significance of water resources, forest and tree protection, and contributing to building resilience against the impacts of climate change.

“Millions of trees for a green Vietnam” in 2022 is also intended to contribute to the Government’s project of planting one billion trees and the target of planting 30 million new trees set by the 11th National Congress of the HCM CYU in the period 2021-2025.

This year’s program sets the goal of planting 60,000 new trees in watershed forest (around 40 hectares) in the Central Highlands provinces of Dak Lak and Dak Nong, and 10,000 scattered trees in response to the Vietnamese Government’s campaign on planting one billion trees by 2025 and the HCM CYU’s target of planting 100 million trees in the 2021-2025 period.

Standing Secretary of the HCM CYU Bui Quang Huy stressed that this meaningful program not only shows the contribution of Vietnamese youth to the watershed forest restoration, tree development, environmental protection, and climate change response, but also contributes to raising awareness and responsibility of the Youth Union members and young people for the  protection of forests and natural resources.

“Green Commitment”, “Green Action”, “Plant virtual trees-Collect real trees”, among other activities, have translated into trees planting, contributing to the program's success,” Huy said.

A photo and video contest on tree planting has been launched, with an aim of spreading the message and significance of the program to young people and society, encouraging practical actions leading to changes in behaviors and habits toward a green lifestyle.

Besides the program and the contest, a virtual walking and running tournament will be held, through which participants can donate up to 20 trees equivalent to the distance that they register to run. Registration can be made at website trieucayxanh.doanthanhnien.vn to widely spread in the community specific actions to protect the environment and respond to climate change.
