Ambassador of Mexico to Vietnam Sara Valdes Bolaño has said that people in Mexico and Vietnam, despite of the distance, share and hold dear some basic values in celebrating the New Year.
Ms. Sara Valdes Bolaño said Tet, officially known as Vietnamese Lunar New Year, holiday marks the onset of the New Year and all the positive possibilities that it brings with it.
She emphasized that it is very special in the sense that everyone tries their best to be prepared to have the most auspicious omens in place to receive the new year: People clean and decorate their homes; shop for gifts; travel to their hometowns; and families get together to cook and enjoy traditional dishes and games.
“This holiday is also an opportunity to reflect on the work done as well as the future, to honor the ancestors, to make amends with family members and to have a week-long holiday of sharing, eating, drinking and chatting with the people you love the most,” the ambassador noted.
Ms. Sara Valdes Bolaño has experienced Tet celebrations and realized the importance that this tradition has in the lives of Vietnamese people.
For the New Year, the ambassador emphasized that “2020 is a special year as it marks the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Vietnam on May 19th, 1975. At the Embassy, we are committed to working with our local partners to make sure we commemorate this meaningful occasion with a set of political, cultural, economic and public diplomacy activities during this year. Our Embassy aims to highlight not just the longstanding friendship ties between both countries but also the multiple opportunities that lie ahead to build upon the past 45 years.”
On this occasion, she showed her interesting experience about Hanoi in the biggest holiday. “It’s amazing how Hanoi transforms from the busy, bustling city we know every day to a placid, quiet place during the holiday period!”
“I would like to wish our Vietnamese friends a prosperous and healthy 2020. Let the New Year be an opportunity to continue the efforts by the Vietnamese government and people to maintain and achieve independence, freedom and happiness. Let the New Year be an auspicious time to further strengthen the historic friendly relations between both our countries,” Ambassador Sara Valdes Bolaño said.
