Memorial service for 18 victims of Hanoi helicopter crash

Friends and family members of the 18 soldiers who perished in the tragic helicopter crash several days ago gathered in Hanoi in the early morning hours of July 11 to pay their respects.

The official memorial service for the 18 victims took place at 7:15am, with the participation of Party and Government leaders, senior military officials, and their families in attendance.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong led a delegation from the Military Commission of the Party Central Committee to pay tribute to the deceased soldiers.
Among those present at the service were Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh, Sen. Lieut. General Ngo Xuan Lich, Chief of the General Political Department under the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), as well as representatives of the military corps.
On July 7, a Russian-made MI-171 helicopter on a parachute training mission with 21 people on board went out of control and crash landed in hamlet 11, Thach Hoa commune, Hanoi’s Thach That district at around 7:45 am shortly after lifting off from Hoa Lac Airport.
Three injured victims remain in critical condition at the Le Huu Trac National Institute of Burns.
