Vietnam has huge potential for logistics development.
Vietnam has huge potential for logistics development.
According to experts, logistics is one of the important economic components of Vietnam. With the advantage of participating in free trade agreements, Vietnam is becoming an attractive destination for foreign investors, especially world leading corporations such as Samsung, Microsoft, LG with plans to move their factories to the country. This has played a big part in expanding Vietnam’s export, and also increases demands for transportation. Vietnam currently has 1,300 logistics enterprises, including Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) enterprises. The logistics market in Vietnam is estimated at 20 – 22 billion USD per year, contributing 20.9% of the GDP. One of the most important phases of logistics is transportation, which contributes 40 – 60% of the expenses.

To realize huge potential of Vietnam’s logistics sector, on February 2017, the Prime Minister has issue Decision No.200/QD-TTG approving the action plan to improve competitivenes and the development of Vietnam’s logistics services. The Vice Minister of Industry & Trade Tran Quoc Khanh said, as the focal point, in April, the Ministry of Industry & Trade has considered plan to implemen the government’s decision. One of the important mission of the Decision 200 is to find solutions to construct logistics center at regional and international level, in turn to improve the efficiency in connection between enterprises. In 2018, the Ministry of Industry & Trade will consider this as one of the priorities and facilitate the construction of such center in some selected provinces and cities.

Based on the current conditions and objective requirements, the government will have policies to support potential investors to construct and develop these centers. Besdies, with the total trade value of more than 400 billion USD, Vietnam still has huge potential for logistics sector to develop. As such, enterprises operating in logistics service are encouraged to innovate and take this opportunity to grow. At present, the Ministry of Industry & Trade is cooperating with related administrative agencies implementing solutions to support enterprises, such as creating a fair competitive environment, avoiding situations when big enterprises putting unfair pressure on small enterprises; cooperating with enterprises to develop high qualified human resources for logistics; facilitating the linkage between logistics enterprises; promoting the role of associations in related with reform to faciliate a stronger grow of logistics enterprises in Vietnam.

As such, a better performing logistics can provide international and domestic investors with an environment where they can source products for export at a lower total landed cost than what they incur in other countries. A stronger logistics sector is also consistent with Vietnam’s long-term vision of spurring export-led growth.

The Logistics Forum 2017 organized by Vietnam Supply Chain will address “back to the basics” that are fundamental for warehouses to achieve both efficiency and effectiveness in supply chains, introducing future trends from the perspective of logistics, encouraging cross-company collaboration in SCM. The Logistics Forum 2017 has 03 shows and each show includes following activities for visitors: Exhibition, Workshop, Seminar, Networking Mixer, Panel Discussion.
