A research institute of the Ministry of Construction has managed to produce diesel oil from waste rubber, helping to reduce environmental pollution caused by the elastic material.

A research institute of the Ministry of Construction has managed to produce diesel oil from waste rubber, helping to reduce environmental pollution caused by the elastic material.

Applying thermolysis technology (decomposition by heat), the research group from the Hanoi-based Institute for Building Materials can make 0.4 kilogram of oil from one kilogram of waste rubber – including materials from used bikes and motor tires.

The exhaust fumes from the process of rubber thermolysis are found to not pollute the environment, according to the Institute for Tropical Technology and Environmental Protection.

The research group has transferred the technology to Saigon Energy Industry and Environment Joint Stock Co., giving the firm a system capable of recycling 200 kilograms of waste rubber per hour.
