Investing in children for sustainable development: Vietnam's PM
Minh Nguyen 20:38, 2024/05/31
Children are at the center of Vietnam's family, society, and government policies.

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has emphasized the role of investing in children in the country’s development, saying it’s a long-term, effective, and sustainable investment.

The prime minister highlighted the care, protection, and education of children, especially those with disabilities, in a visit to Hanoi’s Center for Caring for Disabled Children on May 31, ahead of International Children’s Day (June 1).

The government’s leader stressed the need to allocate different resources to raising children, which is seen as a long-term strategy for national development as it helps prepare high-quality manpower for industrialization and modernization.

This strategy requires the participation of various stakeholders, including the state, social organizations, schools, families, and society.

PM Chinh said that the Party, state, and government have spared no effort to the cause by refining the regulatory framework, taking systematic actions from central to grassroots levels, and mobilizing all resources for facilities and teachers to provide children with the best care and education.

On this occasion, he highlighted the difficulties in caring for and educating children with disability and laid stress on the fair education in which disabled children get equal care and investment.

The prime minister made a request to encourage the adoption of regulations pertaining to children with disabilities. Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Training needs to work with relevant agencies to speed up the system of specialized educational institutions for people with disabilities and the centers for inclusive education in the 2021–2030 period with a vision to 2045.

He asked Hanoi to speed up the project on renovating Hanoi’s Center for the Care of Disabled Children to provide them with better facilities and support.
