Internet changes Vietnamese enterprises to what extent, after 20 years?

On Nov 22, Vietnam Internet Association (VIA) organized the Internet Day 2017 and the 20th anniversary of Internet Vietnam with the theme "Internet Digital Movement - Platform for Vietnamese Enterprises to integrate into digital economy ".

Vietnam's Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan said that current policies are almost for the benefits of foreign businesses while domestic enterprises are strictly controlled.
According to the Minister Tuan, in Vietnam, there are more than 50 million Internet users, accounting for 54% of the population, higher than the world average of 46.64%, in the top countries and territories with the highest number of users in Asia.
Talking about future of the Internet in the next 10-20 years, the head of VNG - CEO Le Hong Minh said that it is certain that the Internet in general and technology in particular are inseparable from other areas in the next 10 years. Communication and the Internet will be the most important.
Mr. Nguyen The Tan, General Director of VCCorp, one of the leading companies on digital content, said that Vietnam enterprises have almost no opportunity to compete on the Internet, such as search, email .. with the big enterprises like Google or Facebook. On social network, only Zalo is strong enough with a large number of users. Therefore, according to him, digital content is the last and most important aspect of Vietnamese enterprises which accounts for 40-50% market share. In Vietnam, digital content is a potential field. Current revenue from digital content reach about USD 1 billion which is mainly from VNG, VTC, VC Corp, with USD 500-600 million. "This revenue can reach upto USD 10 billion.”, he said.
According to Mr. Tan, in the digital content field, there are about 10,000 official employees and 10,000 collaborators. This amount is estimated to be increased by 500-1 million people. "This business is extremely important. Vietnamese enterprises owns some strength that cannot be overwhelmed."

CEO of VCCorp said that to succeed in the next 20 years, domestic enterprises should be brave and the State must solve difficulties for domestic enterprises.
In addition, he said: "We can create virtual space for digital technology and content companies. Participating companies must commit on tax payment obligation and management mechanism for domestic enterprises. Thus, enterprises will have the conditions to replicate its strength without being bound by the old concept and mechanism”.
Regarding on this unequality competition, Mr. Le Hong Minh said: "It is possible to change the business model. It is the fact that, Internet develops too fast while the management regulations are not timely so many enterprises decides to implement their own ideas before complying with the State regulation”.
Mr. Minh also said that after more than 10 years, State management agencies shares with difficulties of many Internet content businesses in Vietnam. Domestic companies should understand that if they do not cooperate with each other, the shall become losers before the huge internation corporations.
Regarding to sharing from businesses, Minister Truong Minh Tuan said: "The government has assigned Minister of Information and Communications to seek for more open policies, not to ban foreign companies operating in Vietnam but to create policies to create equality between domestic and foreign enterprises".
