The Hanoitimes - More than 300 domestic and foreign scientists are gathering at an international workshop on geophysics, being hosted in Hanoi under the theme ‘Geophysics – Co-operation and Sustainable Development’.
Delegates from Russia, Poland, Japan, Ukraine, Canada, New Zealand and hosts Vietnam will present 52 reports focusing on analysis of the earth’s interior structure and seismic activity, also geomagnetism and electrolytic dissociation, atmospheric physics, and exploration geophysics.
Speaking at the opening, vice president of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), Prof., Dr. Duong Ngoc Hai, said the workshop provides opportunities for both international and domestic scientists to share information and their findings in the field of geophysics.
It also aims to uphold Vietnam’s potential contribution towards geophysics and promote international co-operation and integration to improve the efficiency of geophysical works in mineral exploration, disaster mitigation and climate change adaptation in the country.
As part of the four-day workshop, delegates will join a field trip to survey the Red River fault zone and visit Vietnam’s first geophysical station near Sa Pa town, in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.
The event is co-organised by the VAST, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Vietnam Association of Geophysicists.
