International tourists to Vietnam reach 9.8 million in seven months
In July, arrivals from Asian countries totaled 7.6 million, accounting for 77.6% of the total foreign arrivals and up 8.8% year-on-year.
The number of foreign holidaymakers to Vietnam in the first seven months of 2019 is estimated at 9.8 million, up 7.9% year-on-year, according to the monthly report from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO).
Asian arrivals to the country continue to snatch the biggest proportion and experienced a rapid growth pace. In January-July, arrivals from Asian countries reached 7.6 million, accounting for 77.6% of the total foreign arrivals.
Of the amount, the number of visitors from China fell 2.8% while that from South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore rose between 4.2% and 48.2%. The number of Oceania travelers to Vietnam reached 264,400, down 0.8%, while those from Australia reached 235,100, down 0.2%.
In the seven-month period, air travelers totaled some 7 million, up 4.7% while 1.9 million came by road, up 25.2%, and 158,000 by sea, down 11.3%.
In July alone, Vietnam has welcomed around 1.3 million foreign visitors, up 11% against the previous month and up 10.7% year-on-year.
In particular, the number of visitors from Asian countries increased 12.2%, those from Europe, the US and Africa went up 5.4%, 13.4%, and 6% respectively.
Vietnam plans to draw 18 million tourists in 2019, a year-on-year increase of 16%. Besides, the country also focuses on improving the local tourism quality, thereby, increase the revenue earned from tourism.
