Lawyer Nguyen Hung Quang said children, as special legal subjects, require information sources that are adequate, understandable and suitable for their ages.
He proposed that a regulation to ensure children’s access to vital knowledge and a ban on the illegal use of private data should be added to current laws.
According to Associate Professor Dr Nguyen Ngoc Oanh from the Academy of Journalism and Communication, subjects mentioned in the law ought to be understood as children in general, saying despite differences in sex and background, they are equal in deserving a voice as well as in seeking and disseminating useful information.
Lawyer Le The Nhan noted age limitations set in several laws on group establishment has thus far hindered the youth’s engagement in the field.
He pointed out that a draft law on group founding lacks mechanisms to ensure children’s freedom to set up and take part in social groups.
Comments collected at the forum will be submitted at the National Assembly’s tenth session, which is slated to commence in October.
The forum was co-organised by the National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Eduction, Youth, Adolescent and Children and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
