Hunt for the truly Vietnamese iconic hat - Nón lá

Vietnamese style conical hat (Nón lá) has come into casual life not just a part of Vietnam national custom but a decent culture trait.
Lying modestly near Day River, Chuong Village (Thanh Oai Commune, Hanoi) is famous for craft of making Nón lá for more than 3 centuries.Coming to Chuong Village, visitors can’t miss the market. They can stroll around booths selling Nón lá, take photo and enjoy the featuring atmosphere of a countryside fair. 6 fairs per month, 72 fairs per year, it’s obvious that Nón lá of Chuong village are much in demand.
 

In the 4th, 10th, 14th, 20th, 24th and 30th of every month, from early morning, a market fair takes place in Chuong temple yard. Numerous locals flush to the yard and show their unique handiwork: Nón lá in untold kinds, forms and colors. The fair last for just more than 3 hours.

The main material is Lá lụi, special kind of leaf from Quang Binh – a southern province in Vietnam. The leaves are squeezed and sun-dried until they turn into pale white.
