"Homeland Spring" programme to take place in Hanoi on January 31
On the occasion to welcome the Lunar New Year, the annual Homeland Spring programme will be organised in Hanoi on January 31 with various cultural activities for overseas Vietnamese (OVs).
The "Homeland Spring" programme is co-chaired by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, the Foreign Ministry and Hanoi People’s Committee.
The programme will feature a flower festival at the ancient Thang Long royal citadel, a tour of Hanoi craft villages, an incense offering and carp release ceremony in traditional rituals.
The most important activity of the event is a televised music show on the night of the same day, during which President Truong Tan Sang will extend New Year wishes to the OVs.
There are approximately 4.5 million Vietnamese living and working in 103 countries and territories. They establish an indispensable part of the nation and play an important role in intensifying cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and the rest of the world.
The “Homeland Spring” programme has become an annual event anticipated by OVs who return home for Tet.
The event will be attended by State President Truong Tan Sang as well as Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung; and representatives of diplomatic corps, international organisations and OVs.
Also participating in the program will be high-ranking leaders of the Party and State, representatives of ministries, departments, sectors and localities, as well as ambassadors and heads of diplomatic representative agencies and international organizations in Hanoi.
Nearly 2,000 delegates representing overseas Vietnamese (OV) from different countries and territories are expected to join 2016 "Homeland Spring" programme at the August Revolution Square in front of Hanoi Opera House on January 31.
The programme will feature a wide variety of unique arts performances praising the country, the Party and Uncle Ho.
Especially, the State President sending New Year’s greetings to overseas Vietnamese and an art exchange at Lenin Square - Hanoi flag tower on Dien Bien Phu street will be broadcast live on VTV1 and VTV4 at 20h00-22h00pm on the same day.
