Ho Chi Minh City welcomes 7 millionth foreign visitors so far this year
The event was part of activities to commemorate 320 years since the establishment of Ho Chi Minh City.
A welcoming ceremony was held on December 10 to welcome HCMC’s 7 millionth foreign guests at Tan Son Nhat international airport. The symbolic 7 millionth holidaymaker was Frenchman Tissot Jeanclaure.
The visitor, along with two other tourists immediately before and after him, was presented with special gifts from Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism and Vietnam Airlines. All three passengers were on the same flight from Charles de Gaulle Airport (France) to Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City).
The number of foreign visitors to Ho Chi Minh City in the 11 months of 2018 is estimated at 6.8 million, a 19.6% increase from the same period last year, according to Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism.
The event was part of activities to commemorate 320 years of the establishment of Ho Chi Minh City. Earlier, to mark the occasion, Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism has been working with travel agents to design eight affordable tour packages to introduce iconic destinations of the city.
The tours will give visitors an insight of the development of Ho Chi Minh City since its inception to the present. Ho Chi Minh City Post Office, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Binh Tay Market, and the War Remnants Museum are included in these tour packages. The other destinations are Can Gio district, famous for the Vam Sat eco-tourism site and Rung Sac Military Base; and Cu Chi district, which is well known for its underground tunnels. These places tell visitors the history of the city.
According to Vice Director of Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, these tours will be provided at the best prices but still ensure service quality. Especially, all participants will have a chance to visit local museums which will help them learn about the city’s history.
