Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Head of the National Committee for HIV/AIDS, Drug and Prostitution Control and Prevention will chair the upcoming event.
The Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Society (MoLISA) are in charge of preparing reports on HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitution control and prevention in the first half and action orientations in the remaining months of the year.
The Ministry of Public Security’s report has to focus on drug prevention and control especially synthetic drugs and new types of drugs.
The MoLISA will report on prostitution reality, measures to tackle the social evil and rehabilitation work.
The People’s Committee of Nam Dinh, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City will make reports on the realization of prostitution prevention.
The People’s Committee of Quang Ninh will deliver a report on the fight against drugs and prostitution.
Initial statistics show that as of late 2012, Viet Nam recorded over 171,000 drug users, 12,900 more than the 2011 figure. Over 46,000 drug addicts underwent detoxification, meeting 133% of the year plan.
Up to now, Viet Nam has recorded 30,000 prostitutes. Over 1,100 cases involved prostitution were exposed in which 4,800 people were captured.
