The OCOP program plays an important role in accelerating economic development and improving the incomes and lives of local people.

In western Hanoi, Tay Ho is one of the leading districts in implementing the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program in the city. Tay Ho's OCOP products are highly valued for their quality, according to Nguyen Anh Tuan, deputy head of the district's economic division.

"Statistics show that in more than three years of running the OCOP program, the district has developed 23 OCOP products, many of which have been recognized by the Hanoi OCOP Council, and up to 20 have been rated four stars by the Hanoi People's Committee," Tuan said.

He added that the OCOP program has been in place since 2020 and has spread rapidly. Six of the eight wards in the district have had OCOP products evaluated and rated three stars or higher by the Hanoi People's Committee.

To advance the OCOP program, Tay Ho District has guided economic organizations to invest in machinery and equipment and build brands for their products.

"We have had regular support from the district authorities for our participation in weekly trade promotion fairs, which are an opportunity for us to showcase OCOP four-star sticky rice products," said Nguyen Thi Loan, vice president of the Phu Thuong Sticky Rice Village Association.

In 2023, Tay Ho District aims to submit at least ten more products for OCOP evaluation and classification. Vice Chairman of Tay Ho District People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Tinh said the locality has always identified the OCOP program as an important solution to accelerate economic development and improve local people's income and livelihood.

"After more than three years of focusing on the development of fast food and decorative products, the district is prioritizing OCOP products in community tourism services and tourist attractions, with a view to having some services earn a four-star rating and above," Tinh stressed.

He added that in addition to developing new products, Tay Ho District will continue to promote the effectiveness of trade promotion activities in coordination with the New-style Rural Construction Program launched by the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. "The district authorities will support local people to access modern sales channels, especially through e-commerce to promote consumption," Tinh said.

Solutions to improve the efficiency of OCOP product

The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in coordination with the Center for Science and Consulting for OCOP Development, held a workshop on October 16 on solutions to improve the efficiency of OCOP product development in Hanoi.

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ta Van Tuong said that by the end of 2022, Hanoi had 2,167 OCOP products, accounting for 22% of the country's total, including six earning five-star classification, other 12 being five-star candidates, some 1,369 four-star products and 780 others rated three stars. In particular, there are 153 cooperatives (including 132 agricultural cooperatives) participating in OCOP, with 448 recognized products.

Tuong expected the revision of the Land and Capital Law to eliminate difficulties in land mechanisms for agricultural cooperatives.

The official also hoped that the Vietnamese government would encourage enterprises to invest in rural agriculture.

“Moreover, cooperatives need to seize the opportunity of digital transformation in agricultural production, both in processing production and trade to gain greater efficiency,” Tuong added.
