Hanoi’s students claim medals in International Astronomy Olympiad
Hanoi’s students currently participate in the International Astronomy Olympiad informed that the team has achieved excellent results with 4 medals.
In which, 02 students won silver medals including Tran Duc Huy and Nguyen Tien Nhan; 2 students won consolation prizes with Le Hong Long and Tran Quang Thanh. All 4 students at 12th grade at the Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the gifted. All students is expected to be back to Hanoi on November 22.
This is the second year Vietnamese students taking part in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics. The Ministry of Training & Education has instructed the Hanoi Department of Training & Education to organize a delegation of 5 students participating in this competition. Master on physics Duong Cong Thanh, Vice Head of the High School Office of Hanoi Department of Training & Education led the delegation.
The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics has been first organized in 2007 in Thailand with the participation of 21 countries. This year is the 9th competition, which attracted students from 44 countries.
Achievements of Hanoi’s students has shown big effort from all members, as this is not a compulsory subject in Vietnam’s education system. As such, most of students do not pay attention to astronomy and astrophysics. Bearing this in mind, these results will be a great motivation for students to look at this field.
In 2016 – the first year Vietnamese students taking part in this Olympiad, Hanoi’s student has won 1 silver medal and 4 consolation prizes. Notably, all 5 students participating in previous Olympiad were also from the Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the gifted.
