One of Hanoi’s newest landmarks – Nhat Tan Bridge and Highway – an impressive architectural marvel linking the main portion of the city with the Noi Bai International Airport is in the final stages of construction.

Officials recently announced that the bridge and highway project, a symbol of the developing infrastructure in Hanoi, is scheduled to open by October 10, coinciding with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Liberation Day.

The Nhat Tan Bridge project, launched in 2009,is of great economic, political and social significance as it connects Hanoi to industrial parks in the north, helps complete belt road No 2 and reduces the gap from the capital city to International Noi Bai Airport.

The cable-stayed bridge has a total length of 8.95km and width of 33.2m with four lanes and pedestrian sidewalks. The project’s total investment capital is over VND13.6 trillion sourced from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JIBIC) and the Vietnamese Government’s counterpart capital.

“With its technical and architecture magnificence, the bridge, the longest in Vietnam, is destined to become the new symbol of the capital city”, said Nguyen Le Minh, director of the Nhat Tan Bridge Project.

“The continuous cable-stayed bridge has five tower cranes and five spans which will most certainly come to symbolize the five city gates,” he concluded.
