Hanoi's healthcare sector takes steps to meet people’s satisfaction

Hanoi healthcare sector has successfully overcome difficulties in 2017, becomes a highlight for medical treatment, examination and preventive healthcare, and satisfies the increasing demand of people.

The Hanoi Department of Health currently manages 41 public hospitals, 34 non-public hospitals, 2,931 general clinics, specialized clinics and medical service establishments. Total number of beds is 13,347.

In 2017, the health sector increased leadership to apply new technologies at all levels, especially hospitals at level 1. More effort was made to develop specialized technologies for diagnosis and treatment in these hospitals. Many of them are as good as those in central hospitals and other countries in the region, and highly appreciated by national and international experts.

Health care services at grassroots level have been enhanced. Facilities and service quality have been improved to prevent professional incidents. Clinics in localities received 80 to 150 patients per day on average; many of them even provided services to 200 to 250 patients per day.

In 2017, the Hanoi’s health sector launched pilot project on medical checkup and people’s health record in ten communes/wards of five districts and suburban districts, including Long Bien, Gia Lam, Ba Dinh, Soc Son and Nam Tu Liem. Medical checkup was conducted, and health records were made for 68,129 among 139,929 people, accounting for 48.7% of the locals. Currently, the health management software is being completed, so that it can be launched in all communes and wards of the city.

The city also offers screening for colorectal cancer in seven districts and suburban districts, including Cau Giay, Ha Dong, Nam Tu Liem, Dong Da, Long Bien, Thanh Tri and Soc Son. 115,733 samples were collected for testing; 5,882 of them were positive, accounting for 5.1%. People who have positive test result were recommended to take further tests in the Hanoi Center of High Technology and Digestion.

In 2017, the world witnessed complicated diseases, especially early start and unusual changes of dengue fever. Thanks to effort of the whole political system and preventive health care system, Ha Noi successfully controlled the dengue fever; the number of cases were decreased week by week.

Apart from applying new technologies in treatment, Hanoi took measures to improve service quality and medical workers’ behaviour, and reform administrative procedures for convenience of the patients.

According to Director of the Department of Health Nguyen Khac Hien, all health establishments have maps and sign boards showing the way to departments and sectors clearly. Chairs, drinking water, television, photos, guidelines and leaflets are provided in waiting rooms of hospitals. Reception is in charge of receiving patients and guiding them how to process administrative procedures and medical checkup process. For the elderly patients, the staff will take them directly to the clinics, laboratories or functional rooms.

Information of medicines and medical supplies for inpatients are publicized daily; inpatients have their own beds instead of sharing beds with the others.

For the next years, the health sector will further improve attitude of the workers, striving to satisfy patients. More effort will be taken to conduct administration reform, apply information technology in treatment, simplify administrative procedures for patients, improve facilities and supplies, and develop high technologies to raise quality of medical examination and treatment, Hien said.

The health sector will strictly implement regulations on medical examination and treatment with health insurances, and control the health insurance profiteering. It will call for investment from the private sector to improve facilities and supplies and provide patients with better services.

Information technologies will be applied in medical checkup, treatment and disease control.
