Hanoi's green industrial parks attract investment

Hanoi's industrial and commercial sector has been focusing on green growth - a trend that catches investors' attention.

Hanoi's industrial parks have been gradually transformed to ensure socio-economic and environmental balance towards green growth and sustainable development, an option that investors are looking for.

Nguyen Duc Binh, investor of the Phuong Trung Industrial Cluster project in the city's Thanh Oai district, told The Hanoi Times that they have built a modern and synchronized infrastructure system that welcomes investors to lease since November 2023.

Covering an area of 9.55 hectares, the Phuong Trung Industrial Cluster has a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 310 cubic meters per day, which meets the requirements of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for factories in industrial clusters.

"To move towards a green economy and sustainable development, the Hanoi People's Committee has recently issued many policies to promote green development and clean production, and the formation of green industrial clusters is one of the important solutions for the capital," said Tran Thi Phuong Lan, Acting Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade.

She added that the green growth and clean industry focus has been pursued by the Department of Industry and Trade for many years through the National Program on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy for the period 2019-2030 and the National Action Program on Sustainable Production and Consumption for the period 2021-2030.

"With the green orientation, more and more eco-friendly projects have landed in Hanoi, especially in the IPs such as the Phuong Trung industrial cluster in the Thanh Oai district," Lan said.

Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen reiterated that the rapid and synchronous development of the economic and social infrastructure system has been identified as a breakthrough, with priority given to the development of green industrial production infrastructure.

"In newly built industrial clusters, it is necessary to set standards from the planning stage to have a complete infrastructure. Industrial clusters must be built in a synchronized manner, from roads, pavements, water supply and drainage, telecommunications, production areas, commercial and service areas, so that large-scale production can be more effective without affecting people's living environment," Quyen stressed.

The official has instructed the relevant authorities to improve the quality of investment promotion activities, to be more selective in approving projects that match the capital's potential and strengths, and to give priority to high-tech and modern fields.

Le Quang Long, Chairman of the Board of Hanoi Industrial and Export Processing Zones, said the Board has drawn up plans, stepped up promotional activities, and attracted investment into industrial parks in various forms.

In 2023, industrial parks in the city have attracted investment in 10 new projects, half of which are domestic and the other half are FDI projects with capital of US$170 million and 20 others with increased capital, helping to raise investment capital by US$137.6 million.

There are currently 70 industrial clusters in operation in Hanoi, with a total planned area of over 1,680 hectares, attracting over 3,860 households and enterprises with nearly 80,000 workers.

In addition to production and business activities, the import and export of enterprises in industrial parks maintained a good growth rate. Hanoi's industrial parks have employed nearly 165,000 workers (including more than 1,100 foreigners).
